A HTTP Detective Story by Eric Lawrence shows how:
1 - resoundingly useful the Fiddler tool that Microsoft have released is.
2 - resoundingly stupid some people can be.
Non-withsthanding the fact that Internet Explorer (pre XPSP2) returned the referer header when it shouldn't, the person that "exploited" this "functionality" is stupid. It's the same as "just because a bank doesn't prevent you writing your PIN number down" equating to "because you can, you should". Pah - muppets!
Apparently this is a new technology that Microsoft have started applying to downloads from microsoft.com, attempting to download the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 4.0 invokes it. Quite why a download of this variety does, I've no idea. "Bonus" screensavers and their ilk I can understand, but an AppCompat toolkit? Bit of a random one to have WGA on!
For the moment it would seem that WGA is optional. I'm sure I've read somewhere that they plan to make it a permanent fixture however. This is going to piss me off. Especially as I don't think WGA supports Non-IE browsers due to it using ActiveX to do its dirty work. Maybe this is Microsofts sneaky way of trying to lock even more people into Internet Explorer / make non-IE browsers (read: Firefox) seem "broken" as far as "mom and dad" users are concerned,... Picture this:
"Pah, Firefox doesn't work when I try to download those new wallpapers from microsoft for my pc, its rubbish" and the user toddles off back to IE,...
Yay -- about time! Guildford and Godalming are covered in snow, and it looks more like a christmas time day now than it has done for any year I've been on the planet. On the downside, cigarette breaks may prove to be problematic due to the sheer coldness involved!
Upside - I had a lie in today so didn't get into work until half eight. Downside - All the stuff I normally get sorted out, like getting myself up to speed, and email clearing, will have to be done now. Grr! But yay.
I really, really hate flu - especially combined with sadistic air conditioning!
Before working for the place where I work now, I'd averaged maybe 1 day a year ill from work. Not to mention flu never having much of an impact on me. Since working here, thanks to the air conditioning I think I've probably had abour 4 days off in total due to flu. I hate flu.
The reason for having both stored procedures and functions in SQL Server, and the differences between them:
From builder.com.com: SQL Server 2000's user-defined functions add flexibility, cut coding time.
Question from experts-exchange.com: Difference between Stored-Procedure and Function.
And, turned up by my search yet completley un-related, a list of sample SQL Server interview questions. I think a lot of them are scarily simple, but maybe that's just me.... ? techinterviews.com.
And not before time!! The icons provided by MS in previous versions of Visual Studio have been outdated since Windows 3.x
